Job summary

Meeker Elementary School in Ames, IA is seeking a Special Education Educational Associate for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time, benefits-eligible role supports teachers with instructional and behavioral assistance, records, and a safe learning environment.

Under supervision, you will help with student activities, prepare materials, monitor behavior, and communicate with staff. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:15 am–3:15 pm for a 9.5 month term.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to relate to children of various ages and needs.
• Patience, compassion and a supportive relationship with children.
• Basic computer skills including Google Docs and email.
• Professional communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to bend, lift, sit on floor and assist active students.
• Emotional maturity and stability for this role.
• Initiative and anticipation to handle problems.
• Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with instructional activities and student behavior.
• Assist with classroom materials and lesson preparation.
• Maintain student records and daily documentation.
• Supervise discipline procedures and safety in school.
• Assist with health, medication and personal care needs as instructed.
• Interact with students, staff, parents and administration.
• Participate in professional development as requested.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Attend work consistently and punctually.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
