Job Responsibilities
  • Develop plans for students, manage classroom environment, provide instruction, and assess student progress.
  • Plan and produce presentations showcasing student work, talent, or athletic skills.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and collaborate with school personnel for appropriate modifications and accommodations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter, human growth, and development.
  • Respect cultural diversity and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Set goals, objectives, and assessments tailored to individual needs.
  • Design effective lessons incorporating technology and instructional aids.
  • Align assessments with instructional objectives and monitor student progress.
  • Maintain high expectations and a safe, orderly classroom environment.
  • Use data to inform instruction and maintain records.
  • Build rapport and foster positive reinforcement.
  • Engage students in vocational training, especially working with intellectually disabled students in a vocational setting.
Minimum Requirements
  • Connecticut teaching certification (165) in Comprehensive Special Education K-12 or PK-12; master's degree preferred.
  • Three years’ successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred.
  • Experience with educational technology.
  • Commitment to professional growth, self-reflection, and ongoing improvement.
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills.
