Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Education Personal Care Assistant at Sawtooth Elementary School. In this full-time position, you will provide essential support to students with special needs, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff members to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes the well-being and development of each student.



Responsibilities


  • - Assist students with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, eating, and mobility.

  • - Support students in the classroom by providing individualized attention and encouragement.

  • - Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans under the guidance of special education teachers.

  • - Monitor and document student progress and behavior, reporting any concerns to the appropriate staff.

  • - Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.

  • - Collaborate with teachers and other staff to adapt instructional materials and activities to meet the unique needs of each student.

  • - Assist with the management of classroom behavior and implement strategies to promote positive interactions among students.

  • - Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.

  • - Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff.

  • - Perform other duties as assigned by school administration or special education staff.



Requirements


  • - High school diploma or equivalent; requires an AA degree or successfully completed the Idaho Paraprofessional exam.

  • - Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.

  • - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.

  • - Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the growth and development of students with disabilities.

  • - Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • - Basic knowledge of special education practices and IEP development is a plus.

  • - Physical ability to assist students with mobility and personal care needs.

  • - Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.

  • - Background check clearance is required prior to employment.
