Job summary

Greenbush SEKESC is seeking a Special Day Programs Paraprofessional to support supervision, care, and instruction of students with social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities in a special day school setting. You will help implement individualized education plans, monitor behavior, collect data, and communicate with school staff under a special education teacher’s guidance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers, adherence to behavior plans, and assisting in health and daily care

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or a certificate of equivalency.
  • Must be in good standing with partnering district(s) where the program is located.
  • Post-secondary degree and/or relevant certification/licensure preferred.
  • Experience in special education, behavior management, and data collection desired.

Responsibilities

  • Review, reinforce, and remediate skills addressed by the classroom teacher in individual or small groups.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the designated curriculum to assist student achievement.
  • Reinforces and supports student academic, social/emotional, and behavioral plans as designed by the teacher.
  • Facilitate student social and cultural integration and language development.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials to enhance learning activities.
  • Provide instruction using prescribed methodologies under teacher direction.
  • Respond to emergencies to maintain safety.
  • Monitor students to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Utilize educational technologies with students as appropriate.
  • Maintain punctuality and complete duties promptly.
  • Keep the facility clean and safe for students and staff.

Title: Special Day Programs Paraprofessional

Job Summary:


The Special Day School Paraeducator supports the supervision, care, and instruction of students with social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities within a special day school setting. This role assists in implementing individualized education plans that address social/emotional, safety, health, and academic needs. A summary of responsibilities include supporting behavior intervention plans, monitoring and documenting student behavior, collecting and reporting data, and communicating relevant information to school personnel, all under the guidance of a special education teacher.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:


  • Minimum of a high school diploma or a certificate of equivalency.

  • Must be in good standing with partnering district(s) where the program is located.


Preferred:


  • Post-secondary degree and/or relevant certification/licensure.

  • Experience in special education, behavior management, and data collection.

  • Effectively communicate solutions to complex problems.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:


  • Review, reinforce, and remediate skills previously addressed by a classroom teacher in individual or small group settings for the purpose of facilitating student achievement.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the designated curriculum to effectively assist in facilitating student achievement.

  • Reinforces and supports student academic, social/emotional, and behavioral plans as designed by the certified teacher for the purpose of developing students' basic social/interpersonal/academic skills.

  • Facilitate student social and cultural integration and language development.

  • Assists classroom teachers with the preparation of instructional materials for the purpose of providing necessary materials to enhance learning activities.

  • Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of prescribed methodologies under the direction of a teacher or professional staff for the purpose of facilitating student achievement.

  • Responds to emergencies (i.e., injured student, unsafe environments, etc) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and /or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

  • Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.

  • Understands and utilizes educational technologies, as appropriate, with students under the direction of a teacher for the purpose of facilitating student learning.

  • Is reliable, punctual, and completes duties promptly and accurately.

  • Maintain the facility or assigned area to keep it clean and safe for students and staff.

  • Work independently with minimum supervision when the site coordinator/designee is unavailable.

  • Assists in implementing health, safety, and daily care needs for students.


General Responsibilities:


  • Maintain timely documentation.

  • Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the SEKESC.

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA.

  • Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services.

  • Maintain professional relationships with families.

  • Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents.

  • Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families.

  • Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC.

  • Regular and predictive attendance in the designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.

  • Manages all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity.

  • Requires sitting and standing for long periods.

  • Work in a noisy and crowded environment with many interruptions.

  • May be exposed to Hepatitis B and/or other communicable diseases.

Terms of Employment: Salary, work schedule, and vacation to be established by the SEKESC Board of Directors and Executive Director.


Salary: Determined by the Board and the Executive Director. Evaluation: Job performance is to be evaluated annually by the Teacher. Classification: Classified


Job Status : Non-Exempt (FLSA)
