SEK-CAP, Inc. in Fort Scott, KS seeks a service coordinator for the Early Head Start program to support families through weekly home visits, linking them to community resources and developmentally appropriate activities.

The role requires strong communication, organization, and cultural sensitivity, with the ability to work non-standard hours and to complete required trainings, including Home Visitation within the first year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/Associate degree or CDA plus relevant experience.

• Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance where required.

Responsibilities

• Identify and refer with local agencies to provide comprehensive services.
• Perform monthly family assessments and support self-sufficiency goals.
• Track referrals and identify service gaps.
• Recruit families meeting EHS program requirements.
• Conduct weekly home visits of 90+ minutes with necessary components.
• Ensure EHS goals align with Performance Standards and curricula.
• Maintain child assessments (Denver II, ECI, Creative Curriculum.net).
• Provide information to parents on child development and growth.
• Collaborate on individualized lesson plans with parent goals.
• Submit monthly reports and accurate data entry to CAPTAIN, ECI, etc.
• Advocate SEK-CAP in the community; maintain confidentiality.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings; adhere to work hours.

Reports to: Operations Manager – Family & Community Department: Early Childhood Services

Classification: Full-time Status: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide service coordination to families and facilitate parents providing developmentally appropriate learning activities for their children through weekly home visits as outline in the Early Head Start Performance Standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Identify, refer, and work cooperatively with local community agencies and providers to ensure comprehensive services to meet family needs.
• Perform and review monthly an ongoing family-based assessment to develop the goals and needs of families. Assist and support families in meeting those goals to achieve self-sufficiency.
• Track all referrals and resources made and identify gaps in those services that are not available.
• Recruit individuals and families meeting Early Head Start (EHS) program requirements for services within the identified service area.
• Conduct weekly home visits to families that are no less than 90 minutes, and include all necessary components based on family needs, and according to the families learning style.
• Assure that all EHS goals and objectives are implemented as stated in the EHS Performance Standards as well as Florida and Creative Curriculums.
• Maintain ongoing assessments for each child, which may include Denver II, Early Communication Indicator (ECI), Home Inventory, and Creative Curriculum.net.
• Provide information and techniques to parents to assist them in gaining knowledge about child development which will support them in encouraging their child's growth.
• Team with parents to provide individualized lesson plans that include parent goals and interests.
• Submit monthly reports and complete data entry to CAPTAIN, Creative Curriculum.net, ECI, and Kansas Early Head Start Outcomes per assigned due dates and update as needed.
• Articulate, implement, and assure the Early Head Start philosophy and Performance Standards are utilized with community agencies and other service partners.
• Collect, track, maintain, and coordinate health requirements with the assigned health coordinator and health aide bi-weekly.
• Utilize Head Start Specialists/Leads to improve quality and comprehensive services for families.

• Guide parents for preparation of one nutrition activity in the home per month.

• Partner with parents to plan group socialization and conduct transitional activities as needed to meet family needs.
• Assist families in pursuing educational and professional development opportunities.
• Provide prenatal mothers information, training, and support to meet both baby and mother's needs.
• Transport families as per program requirements to meet family needs.
• Ability to work unconventional business hours to meet the family’s needs.
• Utilize Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies to prevent and defuse disruptive behavior.
• Comply with Head Start Performance Standards.
• Respect and support cultural differences and diverse family structures.
• Demonstrate good work habits such as arriving on time and adhering to appropriate break times.
• Attend mandatory In-Service trainings and staff meetings.
• Responsibility to report any suspected abuse or neglect to appropriate authority.
• Advocate for SEK-CAP, Inc. in the community.
• Maintain and assure confidentiality and privacy of SEK-CAP, Inc. customers.
• Uphold and promote the core values and mission statement of SEK-CAP, Inc.
• Support management decisions both in actions and words.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

• Basic computer skills on IBM compatible P.C. systems and software.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Health, or another related field or CDA plus one year experience and/or 3 years of experience in Social Services.
• Have or be willing to obtain Home Visitation Training within the first year of employment.
• Obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days.
• Successfully complete a physical exam and TB skin test before beginning employment and every three years thereafter, with the exception of a diagnosed medical condition requiring annual exams.
• Submit to and pass standard criminal history check.
• Submit to and pass standard drug screen test.
• Possess current, valid driver’s license and meet agency insurance underwriting guidelines.
