The Camp Hill School District is seeking Special Education Paraprofessionals for positions across the District, including elementary autism support and middle/high school emotional support paraprofessionals. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Work with students with disabilities in various settings under teacher direction.
  • Maintain data on students’ academic and/or behavioral performance.
  • Attend field trips and other curricular programs as directed.
  • Provide personal assistance to students, including dressing, feeding, toileting, and mobility.
  • Teach/model appropriate social skills, behavior, and attitude.
  • Complete 20 in-service training hours per year.

Job description

The Camp Hill School District is seeking candidates for Special Education Paraprofessional positions available in the District, including elementary autism support paraprofessionals and a middle/high school emotional support paraprofessional position. Job responsibilities may include support for toileting and all require ability to hold Safe Crisis Management certification (training is provided by the District).

Job Summary:

Special education paraprofessionals are employed to assist the special education teacher in implementing special education or related services for a class and/or to provide direct assistance to students.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist teacher in implementing IEPs (Individual Education Program).
  • Assist teacher with the implementation of instructional activities for both individuals and groups of students.
  • Assist teacher with implementing student behavior management programs.
  • Work directly with students with disabilities either in small groups, large groups, or one-on-one, in general education or special education classrooms, under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Maintain data on students’ academic and/or behavioral performance as directed by the teacher.
  • Maintain an awareness of and assist with students’ emotional problems and physical needs, as directed by the teacher.
  • Provide personal assistance to students when needed, including but not limited to, dressing, feeding, toileting, and in/out of vehicles.
  • Assist students with assistive/education devices when needed.
  • Attend field trips and other curricular programs as directed.
  • Teach/model appropriate social skills, behavior, and attitude.
  • Complete 20 in-service training hours per year (July 1 through June 30).
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Attend meetings as requested by teacher or principal.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and conflict mediation skills
  • Must be cooperative, congenial, and service oriented
  • Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Must achieve Highly Qualified Status through testing required by state standards within 1 year of hire date. Highly Qualified status can be achieved by completing 48 post-secondary credits, holding an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or passing the PDE Competencies for Special Education Paraprofessionals Assessment.
Physical Requirements:

In addition to stooping, crouching, reaching with hand and arm, standing in a stationary position, walking at moderate speeds, and use of fingers, the position may require physically assisting students with specials needs (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.). Person must be able to communicate verbally and to hear with no more than a 40-decibel loss. Vision clarity of near, far and mid-range vision is needed (less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet). Depth perception, ability to focus on objects clearly, with field of vision and ability to identify colors is recommended.
