Job summary

First Children Services is seeking an Instructional Paraprofessional to support teachers in a private NJ special education school serving PreK–12 students. The role involves helping implement educational and therapeutic programs in a safe, structured classroom.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or 60 credits, a current Substitute Teacher Certificate, and strong communication skills. English proficiency is required and prior experience with special needs is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 credits with GPA 2.75 or higher.
• Current Substitute Teacher Certificate.
• Experience with children, especially with special needs, preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing classroom activities under guidance of the Teacher.
• Provide one-on-one or small group instruction as directed by the Teacher.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
• Support IEPs, behavior management strategies, and therapy plans.
• Provide direct care and supervision to students for safety and well-being.
• Facilitate student engagement in educational and therapeutic activities.
• Assist with attendance, inventory, and recording of grades.
• Collaborate with the educational team to monitor and document student progress.
• Participate in staff meetings, in-service and training as required.
• Intermittent classroom coverage and supervision of bus, lunch, and field trips.
• Other periodic assignments as requested by School Administration.
