Job summary

Fort Zumwalt R-2 School District is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional at South Middle School in St. Peters, MO. This full-time role supports students with disabilities under the direction of building principals and special education teams.

The position requires at least a high school diploma, with preference for candidates having 60 college hours and substitute teaching certification. Responsibilities include assisting with instruction, behavior supports, and daily living activities,

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• 60 college hours required for consideration; substitute teacher certification beneficial.
• Experience with students with disabilities, behavioral needs, or in educational settings preferred.
• Must demonstrate flexibility, reliability, and commitment to diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher or general education teacher with the instruction of special education students.
• Meets the needs of all students with disabilities under the direction of the school and special education teams.
• Monitors and assists students to complete tasks with IEP accommodations.
• Assist with the physical care of special education students as needed (diaper changes, bathroom, feeding).
• Assist in teaching and modeling positive behaviors.
• Assist students in daily living skills such as feeding, toileting, and mobility.
• Provide support in monitoring, intervening, and redirecting student behaviors; de-escalate when needed.
• Monitor the classroom when the teacher is unavailable; sub-certification or teaching certification required for this capacity.
• Assist with assistive technology utilization and data collection related to IEP goals.
• Lead individual and small group activities under teacher direction.
• Facilitate communication between general and special education teachers.
• Escort students to/from classes and buses as needed.
• Maintain documentation and records for student files.
