Job summary

Washington County Public Schools in Maryland seeks a Paraprofessional for the Special Education Connections program at Northern Middle School. This grant-funded, 7-hour-per-day position runs on a 10-month work year with a starting hourly rate of $19.26 and potential earnings up to $34.84 on the ESP Salary Scale.

You will assist with individual and small-group instruction, support classroom routines and student supervision, and help implement individualized programs under the teacher's guidance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Meet Highly Qualified status (A.A. degree, 48 credits, or Paraprofessional Praxis Test).
• Two years' experience in a school setting or with children.
• Ability to lift 30–50 pounds.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills.
• Assist teacher in devising strategies for reinforcement and instruction.
• Assist with physical care and management of students when needed.
• Follow through to implement individualized programs.
• Participate in team planning and instructional activities.
• Maintain classroom organization and a positive learning environment.
• Supervise and manage students during instructional and non-instructional activities.
• Provide information on child development to parents/guardians.
• Support with individualized programs and mastering instructional materials.
• Guide independent study and enrichment work for students.
• Read to students, listen to reading, and engage in oral activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor with stakeholders.
