West Elementary School has multiple openings for a Special Education Paraprofessional in the ASPIRE program for the 2025/26 school year. This role involves providing instructional and support services to students in various classroom settings under the supervision of a teacher or professional staff. The paraprofessional will support academic, behavioral, language, and physical needs of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, support services, and students.
  • Collaborate and foster teamwork among staff and students.
  • Maintain anecdotal notes and data recording as needed.
  • Develop strategies to promote acceptance and facilitate social interaction among students.
  • Assist staff with various activities and monitor students during bus rides, recess, lunch, and hallways.
  • Support students with feeding, toileting, and physical needs, including providing physical assistance during toileting.
  • Assist with adaptive equipment care and emergency procedures.
  • Understand and implement IEP goals, medical needs, and student limitations.
  • Support instructional activities, modify materials as needed, and implement behavioral plans.
  • Attend ongoing training and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Communicate with parents and assist students with lesson activities, assessments, and test accommodations.
  • Work with students across multiple needs and grade levels.
  • CPI Certification is encouraged and will be provided by District 47.
Skills and Experience Required:
  • Valid ISBE Paraprofessional License or Short Term Approval.
  • Basic knowledge of technology and willingness to learn its appropriate use.
  • Desire to work with students with special needs.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Understanding of IEP components.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, lift, bend, walk, and run.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, patience, a positive attitude, humor, perseverance, and concentration.

Definition of toileting: Due to a child's disability or medical condition, physical assistance may be required during toileting, including helping with hygiene and positioning. Supervision without physical contact does not qualify as toileting assistance.
