Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School Diploma.
• Experience with students with cognitive impairment or autism spectrum disorder preferred.
• Ability to walk hallways and navigate a classroom and school bus.
• Good gross and fine motor skills; follow instructions.
• No physical limitations for safety interventions.
• Ability to lift children 35–195 lbs.
• CPI certification required within first year.
• Working knowledge of computers and assistive technology.
• Caring attitude with students; able to build relationships.
• Able to communicate with parents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Prevent behavior problems proactively.
• Assist with assistive technology devices and software.
• Facilitate social relationships for students with peers.
• Monitor and implement student behavior intervention plans.
• Support students with academic skills.
• Follow directions from student’s team; stay flexible.
• Assist with classroom activities and materials preparation.
• Help with enrichment activities and resources.
• Chaperone class trips and school functions.
• Assist with toileting, diapering, and hygiene needs as required.
• Implement district seclusion/restraint policy if needed.
• Assist children with dressing and undressing.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in rooms.
