Job summary

Alpha Public Schools is seeking an experienced Special Education Paraprofessional to join our East San José team. You will support students with diverse learning needs in our TK-12 program, assist in implementing IEP goals, and collaborate with teachers to create a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment.

We value flexible scheduling, community engagement, and a commitment to serving underserved students, many of whom are first-generation college-bound.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting students with special needs and implementing IEP goals.
  • Ability to monitor and adjust instruction for individual students or small groups.
  • Experience collaborating with teachers and families to support student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver lessons to individuals and small groups targeting remedial skill needs and IEP goals.
  • Provide in-the-moment behavior support and coaching; respond to crisis behavior as necessary.
  • Analyze data and complete quarterly progress reports to track student progress on IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, leadership, and families regarding student needs and progress.

Alpha Special Education Paraprofessionals are expected to:

  • Plan and deliver lessons to individuals and small groups of scholars (with special needs and without) that target remedial skill needs, IEP goals, and general education content
  • Provide in the moment behavior support and coaching, and respond to crisis behavior as necessary
  • Analyze data and conduct assessments to track student progress on IEP goals and assist Education specialist(s) in the completion of quarterly progress reports
  • Build Relationships by collaborating with special education teachers, Managing Director of Special Education, general education teachers, school leadership team, and families regarding student needs and progress

  • OR completion of two years of college, not a degree but 72 quarter hours or 48 semester hours of college credit
  • OR a passing score on the Praxis Paraprofessional Assessment Test
  • At least 2 years experience working with students and classroom management
  • High behavioral expectations and academic expectations for all students
  • Excellent knowledge of child development and educational practices for students with high needs
  • Willingness to be flexible with your schedule
  • A commitment to working with students in traditionally underserved communities. Approximately 80% of Alpha’s students are from under-resourced communities and will be the first in their families to go to college. The majority of our students are Latinx and/or Vietnamese.
