Job summary

Fremont School District 79 is seeking three Special Education Paraprofessionals for our Lincoln Early Learning Center, Elementary School, and Middle School. The paraprofessional will assist teachers in supporting identified students, supervise in non-instructional areas, and participate in collaborative planning with educators.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the teacher in working with special education students to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
  • Supervises students in playground, lunchroom, buses and other non-instructional areas as needed.
  • Participates in collaborative planning for instruction with the teacher.
  • Assists in preparing the classroom, storing materials and getting ready for closing of school.
  • Coordinates and maintains individual help to an individual special education student.
  • Accompanies students to special area classes or to and from buses.
  • Attends school district and team meetings when necessary.
  • Supports students during independent study, enrichment and remedial work set by the teacher.
  • Performs clerical, administrative and safety tasks for the teacher (copies, bulletin boards, filing, cleaning equipment, AV setup, etc.).
  • Maintains or modifies a student's curriculum as required by the teacher.
  • Assists with testing of students and observes/records progress as needed.
  • Keeps the classroom neat and orderly.
  • Helps prepare and maintain student records when requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by principal, assistant principal and teacher.

Job description

The Paraprofessional will be expected to provide assistance to identified students in general education or special education classrooms. The classroom teacher and the special educator will oversee and direct the paraprofessional's daily activities. The Paraprofessional:

  • Assists the teacher in working with special education students to reinforce instructional material initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Supervises students in the playground, lunchroom, buses and other non-instructional areas as required and requested by the classroom teacher, principal and assistant principal.
  • Participates in collaborative planning for instruction with the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in preparing the classroom for school, storing materials and getting the classroom ready for the closing of school.
  • Coordinates and maintains individual help and assistance to an individual special education student.
  • Accompanies special education students to special area classes or to and from buses as needed.
  • Attends school district and team meetings, when necessary or appropriate.
  • Supports students during independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up by the classroom teacher.
  • Performs clerical, administrative and safety tasks for the teacher, including making copies, preparing bulletin boards, filing, cleaning equipment and toys, setting up audio-visual equipment, etc.
  • Maintains or modifies a student's curriculum to the needs of the student as required and directed by the teacher.
  • Assists special education students in any testing and observes and records student progress as needed.
  • Keeps the classroom neat and orderly.
  • Assists with preparing and maintaining student records when requested.
  • Performs other related duties as may be necessary and assigned by thebuilding principal, assistant principal and teacher.
