Paraprofessional - Special Education

Essential Functions:
- Special education paraprofessional assists students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher.
- The special education paraprofessional assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, help special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships.
Specialized Education: Training, knowledge, experience and certification(s) required.
- High School diploma required.
- Must meet the State of Michigan requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional with either 60 college credits completed in any subject or a passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.
- Previous special education experience working in a school or with elementary experience - preferred but not required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Consultation and collaboration with Special Education and Regular Education Teachers as well as related service staff
- Performs internal and external office communication: email, voicemail and miscellaneous written correspondence (to include general clerical responsibilities)
- Assist the teacher in collecting and charting data (i.e. IEP goals and objectives/services provided)
Physical Requirement: List the minimum physical requirements
- Able to lift 15 pounds to carry, push and/or pull items
- Hear and speak to exchange information in person or on the telephone
- The ability to travel to other buildings within the district is required
