Thornton Fractional High School District 215 seeks a paraprofessional to assist classroom teachers, tutor students, and support a positive learning environment. Ideal candidates will hold an Illinois educator license with the appropriate paraprofessional endorsement or substitute license, and bilingual ability is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Must hold a current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) with a paraprofessional educator endorsement OR a current Illinois Substitute License (SUB) OR a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL).
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains professional relationships with staff and students.
  • Supervises students in non-instruction activities; reinforces learning in small groups.
  • Conducts teacher prepared lessons with small groups.
  • Assists in educational demonstration.
  • Establishes positive working relationship with students.
  • Carries out instructional activities as planned by the teacher.
  • Reads materials and tests to students, as needed.
  • Assists students with makeup work, when necessary.
  • Implements behavioral management strategies using the same emphasis and techniques as the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management.
  • Provides student with feedback and reinforcement on performance consistent with teacher's behavior management plan.
  • Assists the teacher in classroom behavior management as directed by the teacher.
  • Carries out the teacher's plans for the student.
  • Becomes aware of each student's unique learning style under the direction of the teacher.
  • Becomes familiar with each student's physical, psychological report and social history.
  • Makes, sets up, stores and maintains inventory of instructional materials.
  • Responsible for audio-visual materials and making copies.
  • Reports for duty at the times and locations designated.
  • Supervises students outside of the classroom during passing periods.
  • Attends all staff meetings and/or professional development sessions as allowed by contract.
  • Adheres to the published policies and procedures of the District.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Performs any other related duties as requested by the Assistant Principal or designee.

Position summary

Terms Of Employment
  • 10-month work year as defined in the AFT/IFT Local 943 collective bargaining agreement.
  • Starting wage between $23.00 - $24.15/hour, based on education and verified experience;
  • Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension;
  • Sick and personal days;
  • 10+ paid holidays;
  • Generous fringe benefits as provided by the current Agreement;
  • Annual performance evaluation in accordance with the current negotiated Agreement and Board policy.
