COWETA COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional for Arbor Springs Elementary School to support the Adapted Curriculum Autism classroom. The role involves assisting the teacher with instructional delivery, preparing materials, and maintaining student records throughout a 183-day school year.

The position requires Paraprofessional Certification (or equivalent) or 90 quarter hours/60 semester hours, with mindset safety/deescalation training preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide support to Adapted Curriculum Autism classroom teacher(s) in implementing instructional programs.
• Meet and instruct groups and individuals as designated by the teacher.

• Maintain accurate records and assist in data collection for review by the teacher.

POSITION TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL - ADAPTED CURRICULUM AUTISMStarting Pay: $16.41 an hour 7.5 hours - 183 DAYSLOCATION: Arbor Springs Elementary SchoolAVAILABLE: 26/27JOB DESCRIPTION:To provide competent support and assistance to the Adapted Curriculum Autism classroom teacher(s) in the full implementation of the instructional programs for students with Autism. Meets and instructs assigned groups and individuals in locations and at the times designated by the teacher. Presents materials required in the assignment within the content limitations of the system curriculum guides and under the direction of the teacher. Assists the teacher in the implementation of programs of study that, as much as possible, meet the individual needs and abilities of the students. Assists in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and cognitive/behavioral level of the students. Prepares for groups and/or individuals assigned, and shows evidence of such preparation. Provides the teacher with input for assessing the accomplishments of students. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records, as required. Assists with implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct. Helps the teacher enforce reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Provides appropriate feedback to learners about their academic progress and behavior. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Reproduces, organizes, distributes, and collects instructional materials for implementation of instructional programs. Complies with any reasonable oral or written directive of the teacher, the principal, or other appropriate administration or supervisor. Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information. Provides support to students with Autism in a variety of settings, as directed by the teacher. Assists in the collection of data and in compiling and organizing data for review by the teacher. Assists with the implementation of sensory diets/protocols and positive behavioral supports/interventions. Participates successfully in all training programs designed to increase skill and proficiency related to the individual job assignment, as well as procedures to be used with students with disabilities. Participates in Mindset Safety Management - Deescalation training and utilizes techniques according to individual student needs. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to perform special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations.REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING:Qualify for a Paraprofessional Certificate by either holding an Associate's Degree or higher OR 90 college quarter hours/60 semester hours OR pass the Paraprofessional GACE Assessment. Mindset Safety Management - Deescalation training or the ability/willingness to receive training.REQUIRED SKILLS:The ability to organize, direct, and control small and large groups of children in a variety of activities and settings is required.
