Job summary

Coweta County School District in Georgia seeks a Special Education Teacher for Adapted Curriculum focused on autism for the 2025-26 school year at Jefferson Parkway Elementary School.

You will plan, implement, and assess individualized programs (IEPs), collaborate with staff and families, and ensure compliance with IDEA and state requirements while maintaining student safety and records. ABA training and GOIEP data practices are preferred.

Qualifications

Job description

POSITION TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - ADAPTED CURRICULUM - AUTISM - 190 DAYS LOCATION: JEFFERSON PARKWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AVAILABLE: 2025-26 JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide leadership to effectively plan, coordinate and implement programs of instruction that ensure students opportunities to reach their highest social, emotional and academic potential. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated. Select and present materials required in the teaching assignment within the framework of the content limitations of state and system curriculum guides. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students. Develop and implement classroom technology which may relate to the use of audio, video, graphics, research technologies and other tools to facilitate learning. Prepare for classes assigned and show evidence of preparation upon request of principal or designee. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Provide adequate background information and materials when a substitute teacher is to assume responsibilities. Maintain satisfactory attendance defined by system or local school handbook. Comply with conditions stated in contract of employment. Comply with the federal, state and local board of education requirements for the development of educationally appropriate instruction. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and work cooperatively with all staff members in attaining school goals and objectives. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Attend staff, department, team, or grade level meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Participate as required in the appropriate state annual evaluation process. Perform such additional responsibilities as may be assigned by the building administrators.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

• Abides by the mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
• Evaluates students with disabilities and implements appropriate programming for students with Autism.
• Develops (in GOIEP) and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with state and federal requirements.
• Monitors and reports progress on IEP goals and objectives through data collection and makes appropriate adjustments to the student's education program as appropriate.
• Participates in training and administers the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA) to eligible students in appropriate grade levels as specified by the Georgia Department of Education.
• Collaborates with district Special Education personnel to implement appropriate programming, classroom structure, scheduling, sensory diet/break protocols and behavior management routines.
• Works collaboratively with and guides/supports paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
• Provides consultation to other staff members concerning the unique needs of students with Autism and appropriate interventions.
• Participates in required district training for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Mindset Safety Management - Deescalation and utilizes techniques according to individual student needs.
• Collaborates with other staff members and parents regarding the academic achievement and functional performance of students.
• Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information.
• Provides consultation to other staff members concerning the unique needs of students with Autism and appropriate interventions.
• Follows all procedural safeguards and documents adherence in an appropriate manner.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING:

Minimum of bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and state required certification for Special Education Adapted Curriculum.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and direct the implementation of a comprehensive classroom instructional program for students with Autism. Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, and competency in counseling and evaluating students with disabilities.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Successful teacher training and teaching experiences at the level to which assigned. Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and teaching students with Autism is preferred. Experience with the administration of the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA) preferred. Experience with Infinite Campus student information system and online GOIEP platform preferred. Mindset Safety Management deescalation experience preferred.
