Job summary

Oakland Unified School District Programs for Exceptional Children (PEC) in Oakland, California seeks a Paraeducator for Special Education. This 0.8 FTE position supports certificated teachers in delivering instruction, implementing IEP goals, and assisting with health and daily living activities for students with disabilities.

Responsibilities include reading IEP goals, documenting progress, and coordinating with teachers and families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and related training or coursework.
• Ability to work with students with disabilities and meet IEP goals.
• Experience supporting classroom instruction in K-12 settings.
• Ability to use ASL, PSE, or other signing systems as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist certificated teacher with instruction to individuals or small groups.
• Support students in Pre-K through Young Adult programs to meet IEP goals.
• Monitor and report student progress and maintain records.
• Provide basic health and hygiene assistance to students as trained.
• Assist with classroom setup, materials, and behavior management.
• Support safe wheelchair and equipment handling and student mobility.
• Communicate professionally with staff and parents as required.
