Job summary

Norwalk Community School District is seeking a Special Education Paraeducator at Lakewood Elementary to support students under the guidance of licensed staff. This role focuses on reinforcing learning, assisting with IEP goals, ensuring safety, and maintaining structured routines in a supportive classroom.

The paraeducator will work with individual students or small groups, supervise during arrivals and transitions, and collaborate with teachers and specialists to meet student needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Experience as a paraeducator or paraprofessional preferred.
• Experience working in a school setting preferred.
• Collaborative and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to relate to all children regardless of needs and/or abilities.

Responsibilities

• Work with students to reinforce learning under teacher guidance.
• Supervise students during arrivals, dismissal, transitions, meals, and hallway activity.
• Assist with implementing IEP goals and behavior support plans under licensed staff guidance.
• Support engagement through prompting, cueing, modeling, and scaffolding.
• Operate classroom equipment and assistive technology as needed.
• Implement behavior safety and crisis plans under supervision.
• Assist with personal care needs following health plans and nurse direction.
• Collaborate with teachers and related service providers to support student needs.
