Job summary

Addison Elementary School District 4 is seeking a Special Education Paraeducator to support students under licensed teachers and therapists, either 1:1 or in small groups. The role involves implementing instructional plans, following behavior plans, and assisting with personal care as needed.

6 hours per day, with an hourly rate of $18, and employment on student attendance days and institute/workdays. Training and team collaboration are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Meets all ISBE licensure requirements.
• Reading or math background, preferred.
• Experience with children, preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Self-motivation with ability to follow prescribed program and IEP objectives with limited direct supervision.
• Bilingual skills helpful.

Responsibilities

• Displays professionalism, including integrity and confidentiality.
• Demonstrates flexibility in schedule and activities throughout the day.

• Supports student achievement and growth in integrated social/academic areas.
• Implements instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists (1:1 or small group).
• Applies lesson modification as directed and supplement or change lesson modifications as needed to ensure that learning objectives are met.
• Administers curriculum-based assessments.
• Records and updates student’s progress toward achievement of individual educational plans.
• Provides support and assists in preparing educational material under the supervision of the teacher.
• Implements and follows through with teacher created behavior plans.
• Provides support with behavioral intervention (if CPI trained).
• Prompts, cues, and redirects students to keep on task.
• Provides support in the areas of personal care, hygiene, toileting, feeding, etc., as needed.
• Assists in the direct supervision of children in the assigned program as directed by the teacher or administrator (e.g., bus loading, classroom assignments, lunch, recess, restroom, etc.).
• Assists with non-instructional activities.
• Escorts students from busses or cars at the start of classes and escorts students to appropriate busses or cars at the end of classes when required.
• Attends and participates in assigned meetings and trainings, as directed.
• Attends team meetings and parent-teacher conferences, if requested or as appropriate.
• Performs other similar duties as directed by the teacher or the principal.
