Job summary

RSU 87 is seeking a knowledgeable, collaborative Special Education Teacher to support students with disabilities in grades 5–8 at Caravel Middle School in Carmel, Maine. The role emphasizes literacy, math, and life skills instruction and requires strong leadership and communication with the team.

Endorsements per Maine DOE (282/286) are preferred; a $2,000 stipend is provided. The position starts in the 2026–2027 school year and serves RSU 87 in Carmel & Levant.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of special education paperwork and requirements.
• Ability to teach literacy, math, functioning life skills and social skills.
• Endorsements preferred (Maine DOE 282 or 286).
• Experience writing IEPs and coordinating IEP meetings.
• Experience implementing positive behavior intervention plans.
• Knowledge of state and federal special education regulations.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide specially designed instruction in literacy, math, social skills and life skills.
• Coordinate and lead IEP meetings.
• Complete and manage special education paperwork.
• Support students with disabilities in grades 5–8.
• Collaborate with educational staff and supervise aides as needed.
