Job summary

Board of Education of Charles County is seeking an instructional aide to support literacy lessons for middle and high school students. You will assist the teacher with planning activities and maintaining a safe, orderly environment.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 48 college credits or ParaProfessional scores (or an associate degree), plus experience working with children and strong communication skills. This is a 10-month, non-exempt, on-site position.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree, 48 college credits, or passing ParaProfessional scores required.
• Experience working with children.
• Ability to work in an instructional support role with high school/middle school aged children.
• Excellent human relations skills.
• Excellent organizational and communications.
• Knowledge of developmental stages of children.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan developmentally appropriate activities as directed by the literacy teacher.

Responsibilities

• Assists the teacher in planning instructional activities and maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
• Works with individuals or small groups to provide instructional reinforcement after the literacy teacher delivers the instruction.
• Assists the teacher in making preparations for a lesson.
• Regular on-time attendance.
• Performs related duties as assigned by the principal.
• Required to provide substitute coverage as needed.
