Special Education Instructional Assistant (2025-2026)

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Experience working with children required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to work with elementary, middle, or high school children in an instructional support role.
• Excellent human relations, organizational, and time management skills.
• Knowledge of developmental stages of children.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan developmentally appropriate activities as directed by the literacy teacher.
• Must be at least 18 years old to work in elementary schools.
• Must be at least 18 and out of high school for at least 2 years to work in middle and high schools.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist teachers in planning instructional activities and maintaining a safe environment.
• Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce instruction.
• Help prepare for lessons.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
• Perform duties as assigned by the principal.
• Provide substitute coverage as needed.
• Assist with toileting depending on the assigned area/program.

Environmental Factors & Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to visit various locations, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift/move light to medium weights (10-50 pounds). Good hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and visual acuity are necessary. The employee will frequently sit, reach, talk, and hear.
