Job summary

Westfield Washington School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant for Special Education to support students with diverse needs at Midland Crossing Elementary School. Under the supervision of a licensed teacher, you will reinforce classroom instruction and provide 1-on-1 or small-group support.

This role emphasizes patience, confidentiality, and the ability to adapt activities to each student, including life skills and basic needs support.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
• Clear and concise communication, both orally and in writing.
• Perform tasks with independent judgment, accuracy, speed, and confidentiality.
• Relate well to students, parents, staff, and the community.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with district and state testing per student accommodations.
• Support teacher in reinforcing material and tailored strategies.
• Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work as assigned.
• Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work.
• Assist with group activities, reading aloud, and storytelling.
• Be a resource for substitute teachers and alert about student needs.
• Maintain professional behavior and data records as directed.
• Assist with personal, social, and instructional needs under supervision.
