Job description

Special Education History Teacher
Location: Laurel, MD, 20723
What you will do:

  • In consultation with Assistant Teacher, Behavior Staff, Career Staff, Related Service Staff, parents/guardians and other professionals as appropriate, the High School Teacher develops and implements individualized education and behavioral programs for each assigned student.
  • Develops Individualized Education Plans for students.
  • Prepares quarterly report cards and mid-quarter reports, and IEP progress report narratives.
  • Maintains good communication with students’ parents/guardians, relevant staff, and appropriate professionals outside the school.
  • Maintains classroom budget, and reports expenditures to supervisor.
  • Evaluates students’ current levels of academic and behavioral functioning, and periodically re-evaluates to make program adjustment.
  • Selects appropriate instructional materials and strategies based on the curriculum to implement the goals and objectives on the IEP in all required subject areas.
  • Organizes classroom furniture and equipment to create a pleasant and effective learning environment.
  • Actively supervises students throughout the day to ensure safety, including, but not limited to bus and playground duty.
  • Implements individual and group behavior management programs.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's Degree, required.
  • Minimum qualification for a Provisional Certificate in special education at the appropriate level, or content area.
  • Experience working in special education or a related field, preferred.
