Job Description

Required Certificates and Licenses: Michigan Teaching Certification Required. Must have a Special Education endorsement.

Residency Requirements: This position is virtual and open to residents of the 50 states and Washington, D.C.

The Special Education Floating Substitute Teacher is a state-certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The teacher must provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs as defined by each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). The teacher works actively with students and parents to advance each student’s learning and is responsible for the compliance documents required in serving students with special needs.

This position is for the 2025/2026 school year.

This position offers a base salary around $51,000 plus the eligibility of a performance bonus.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during work hours, typically 8-5 or as defined by the school.

  • Ensure all special education and related services are provided as determined by the IEP team by:
  • Communicating with parents and related service staff to ensure students receive appropriate therapies
  • Developing compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other required documentation
  • Facilitating and leading collaborative IEP meetings
  • Using provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities
  • Making modifications and accommodations to lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP
  • Ensuring inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom
  • Monitoring student progress towards IEP goals through data collection and work samples
  • Documenting all contact with parents and interventions with students
  • Analyzing student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment
  • Providing engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
  • Personalizing learning for all students
  • Maintaining grade books, making student placement decisions, and alerting administrators to concerns
  • Preparing students for standardized tests
  • Establishing and maintaining positive rapport with families and communicating regularly with students and parents
  • Supporting learning coaches/parents with instructional issues and troubleshooting in a virtual environment
  • Ability to travel up to 20% for professional development, testing, or as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Active state teaching license with a Special Education endorsement
  • Ability to clear background check

Compensation & Benefits: Salaries vary based on education, experience, and other factors, typically ranging from $26,104 to $68,361.27. Benefits may include health coverage, retirement, and paid time off. Bonuses may be available.
