Job summary

Northside Center for Child Development is seeking a qualified Special Education Evaluator on a per diem basis. Evaluations are conducted on site in East Harlem, NYC, with flexible scheduling based on demand.

Candidates must hold NYS certification for educational evaluation and have experience working with young children (preschool). The role involves administering assessments, preparing IEP-based recommendations, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Special Education, School Psychology, or a related field.
• Current New York State certification/licensure in one of the following (or closely related): School Psychologist, Students with Disabilities (Birth–Grade 2 or Early Childhood/Childhood Special Education), or other NYS credential suitable for educational evaluation responsibilities
• Experience conducting evaluations for young children, preferably preschool (ages 3–5).
• Strong knowledge of CPSE/IEP processes, assessment practices, and special education regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong report-writing.
• High attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive educational evaluations for students referred for special education services.
• Administer and interpret a variety of standardized tests and assessments to identify strengths, weaknesses, and needs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop IEPs based on evaluation results.
• Provide detailed written reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and strategies.
• Maintain confidential records of all evaluations in compliance with regulations.
• Communicate evaluation results to families, school staff, and stakeholders.
• Stay updated on best practices in special education assessment and intervention.

• Northside Center for Child Development is seeking a qualified and dedicated Special Education Evaluator to join our team on a per diem basis. This position involves conducting educational evaluations to assess the needs of students and help develop appropriate educational plans. The role provides flexibility, with the opportunity to conduct evaluations twice a month or more, depending on demand. Evaluations must be performed on site.
• Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive educational evaluations for students referred for special education services.
• Administer and interpret a variety of standardized tests and assessments to identify students' strengths, weaknesses, and areas of need.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including educators, parents, and other specialists, to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on evaluation results.
• Provide detailed written reports summarizing findings, educational recommendations, and strategies tailored to each student's unique needs.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of all evaluations and assessments in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Communicate effectively with families, school staff, and other stakeholders to explain evaluation results and support educational planning.
• Stay updated on best practices and current research in special education assessment and intervention.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred but not required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
• Experience working in urban settings and/or with culturally and linguistically diverse children and families.
• Familiarity with commonly used preschool assessment tools and CPSE-aligned reporting expectations.

Schedule & Work Location

• Per diem, as needed, based on referral volume and scheduling needs (may be twice per month or more depending on demand).
• Evaluations are conducted on-site at Northside Center for Child Development, East Harlem, NYC.

Compensation

$165 per monolingual evaluation; $215 per bilingual evaluation
