Job summary

Garfield Park Academy is seeking a motivated full-time Special Education Elementary School Teacher for a 10-month position in a small departmental classroom. The teaching team includes teachers, aides, social workers, and therapists supporting students with behavioral challenges and learning issues.

Requirements include New Jersey Elementary Education K-5 certification; TOSD preferred; one year of Special Education teaching preferred; a Bachelor’s degree and in-person teaching duties with

• One year of Special Education teaching experience preferred.
• New Jersey TOSD certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Providing individualized teaching strategies in accordance with each student’s IEP and goals.
• Implementing modifications and accommodations in the classroom and in testing/assessment situations.
• Collecting and interpreting data to teach responsively and administering periodic assessments.
• Participating in school staff meetings and parent meetings and communicating with educational team members, school leaders and parents/guardians.

Position requirements include:

• New Jersey Teacher Certification in Elementary Education K-5
• New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) certification is preferred. One year of teaching experience is preferred.
• At least one year of Special Education teaching is preferred.

Garfield Park Academy instructional staff are thoroughly trained and mentored in the Teaching Family Model. Elementary School Teacher responsibilities include: providing individualized teaching strategies in accordance with each student’s IEP and individual goals and objectives; implementing modifications and accommodations in the classroom and in testing/assessment situations; collecting and interpreting data to teach responsively; administering periodic assessments to determine present levels of performance; participating in school staff meetings and parent meetings and clearly and consistently communicating and collaborating with educational team members, school leaders and parents/guardians.
