Position Overview

The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes:

  • All students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control;
  • In the need to work interdependently with teachers, school, and district leaders throughout the system, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students;
  • In the need to work in partnership with staff to continuously improve practices to enhance student and family engagement, creating the conditions for equity, excellence and student success; and
  • In meeting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success

Primary Responsibilities

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • A. Under the direction of a licensed teacher, will educate students (one-on-one or small group) B. Provide assistance with individualized programmed materials C. Assist with group educational activities D. Carry out activities designed by the teacher E. Monitor supplementary work and independent work F. Confer and plan with licensed teachers G. Provide documentation to licensed teachers H. Provide daily living and personal care support to students who require assistance I. Assist the licensed teacher in observations, recording and charting behavior and goals J. Assist the licensed teacher with crisis situations and behavior management, including physical intervention/restraint of students if required K. Prepare materials for learning activities L. Prepare the environment for learning activities M. Participate in professional activities and meetings N. Utilize computers, assistive technology, and technology for individual or group student use O. Maintain the classroom for safety and cleanliness P. Supervise students in hallways, lunchroom, playground, field trips, etc. Q. Complete paperwork for third party billing as required R. Perform other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned

Preferences

We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues and an enthusiasm for working with students. Preferred candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning as evidenced by graduate-level work or an earned degree, as well as participation in professional organization conferences or seminars related to the content area.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Education
  • High school diploma
  • General Experience
  • Experience working with individuals in an environment that provides broad familiarity with

and understanding of the characteristics and needs of individuals with exceptional needs

  • Substitution allowed
  • General Education Development (GED) certificate may substitute the high school diploma
  • Character Requirement Prior to Appointment
  • Thorough check of references and facts stated in the application

ii. Thorough background investigation

Licensure, Certifications And Other Requirements

  • Valid State of Minnesota Driver License
  • Maintain certification in CPR and 1 st Aid
  • Maintain certification in a verbal and physical intervention (ie: PCM, CPI)

Licensing Requirements

No license is required for this position.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $21.74, based on the CVSEC Master Agreement.
