Job Overview:

This position provides leadership and management of the special education records and information management system portion of the Achievement in Montana (AIM) electronic reporting system.

The special education records and information management system serves as the Department of Special Education's primary accountability system for special education and related services provided to more than 21,000 students with disabilities state-wide.The effective management of this system is critical to the state of Montana’s ability to meet the Department of Education accountability requirements that provide federal funds for the support of special education services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Behaviors):
  • Knowledge of the Student Information Systems or IEP platforms, including Achievement in Montana (AIM) system.
  • Knowledge of the relationship between the data warehouse and the special education components of AIM.
  • Knowledge of essential technology skills including digital literacy, data fluency, and cybersecurity awareness.
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and generate data reports.
  • Knowledge of how to trouble shoot login problems, password issues, and basic technical glitches for users.
  • Skilled in organizational, analytical, planning, and strategic thinking.
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication.
  • Skilled in communicating orally in an effective manner to a variety of audiences.
  • Skilled in establishing positive relationships with coworkers, other agencies, and the public.
  • Skilled in analyzing data systems.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team to ensure complex processes are followed.
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, technology, systems information, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years’ experience working in technology services, data information, client services, software development or related fields.
