Primary Purpose:
Coordinate special education programming on the campus level by providing direct and indirect support to campus administration, student service personnel, and instructional staff. Assist special education district administrators, evaluation personnel and campus instructional staff in the development, implementation, program evaluation, and instructional services related to special education.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the Special Education program on assigned campuses to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Maintain current knowledge of state and federal law and best practices for all assigned programs
- Ensure appropriate delivery of both special education instruction and related services as stipulated in IEP’s
- Ensure services provided by contractual personnel are of high quality
- Effectively communicate to parents the special education process including process for referrals, evaluations, annual meetings, and re-evaluations as well as parental rights granted by IDEA.
- Facilitate ARD meetings using a strengths based and family centered approach
- Coordinate with student’s special education case manager/teacher to ensure all documents are completed in a timely manner prior to ARD meeting.
- Coordinate with special education case managers/teachers to complete quarterly IEP progress reports and provide quarterly IEP progress reports to parents/guardians.
- Provide professional development and technical assistance to case managers, teachers, related service providers and support service professionals on all aspects of case management including: use of computer systems for the special education process, goal writing, progress reports, annual reviews and parent communication.
- Collaborate with campus 504 Coordinator to coordinate Child Find efforts on assigned campuses
- Coordinate evaluation team members and service providers efforts with other Special Education and District departments and programs
- Coordinate contracted evaluations with private providers, as appropriate
- Ensure evaluations and ARD Committee meetings adhere to state and federal timelines
- Participate in review of campus personnel, as appropriate
- Complete and monitor data reports to provide accurate information regarding all assigned programs
- Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents
- Monitor accuracy of PEIMS data for all assigned programs
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations
- Work cooperatively with Campus Administrators to implement and refine Response to Intervention, Student Support Team and the Special Education process.
- Ensure confidentiality
- Enhance job skills by participating with staff development programs, as assigned
- Be active in faculty meetings and special events as assigned
Day to Day Activities include:
- ARD Facilitation
- Coordination of compliance efforts on assigned campus.
- Supervise IEP implementation and provide support to campus staff as needed.
Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Valid Texas Special Education Teaching certificate
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Communication Skills: Employees must have the ability to manage meeting facilitation and communicate with colleagues, students and parents regarding IEP services and supports.
- Technology: Employee must utilize electronic system for creating IEPs.
- Other: Positive, calm, supportive attitude. Strong critical thinking skills. Strong organizational ability.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to feel, touch and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employees may occasionally support student toileting and diapering needs.
Work Environment:
The environment requires close proximity to other employees, frequent interruptions, and extended periods of time viewing a computer screen, and noise levels from moderate to high. There may be activity from other employees and students of distracting nature. This position requires occasional travel within DFW area
.
Starting Salary: $70,000
