Position Overview

Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) is seeking talented, self-motivated Special Education Coordinators to join the SpEd Leadership team. This position supports member district special education departments on due process and implementation of new trends, compliance, and rules. This position will serve multiple school districts and/or HVED level IV programs within the Education District. District and program assignments are based on a combination of geographic location, student caseloads and district needs, as well as team and employee preferences.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education required
  • Licensure as a Special Education Teacher
  • Four years of Special Education experience
  • Meets requirements of special education teaching endorsement
  • Content of training programs must include a combination of curriculum development and the consultation process in special education or regular education
  • Valid driver’s license

  • Must possess ability to problem-solve
  • Must possess ability to coordinate with others and lead teams when necessary
  • Must possess skills to be a due process facilitator
  • Knowledgeable with specific case involvement and in-service
Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)
  • Coordinates and supports curriculum materials, methodology, and related instruction
  • Provides leadership in the implementation of new trends, rules’ compliance, and screening early identification of children requiring special education services
  • Facilitates the development of pre-referral activities such as intervention plans, Teacher Assistance Teams, and general education strategic activities
  • Assists with designing, monitoring and coordinating district procedures to assure procedures are in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Assist IEP teams in problem-solving and creating plans
  • Become a certified CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Trainer and facilitate CPI initial and refresher courses for HVED employees and member district employees.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel among the HVED member school districts required.
Working Conditions
  • Office, lifting, sitting, standing, pushing, pulling, keyboarding, etc.
Salary Range

$52,443 - $85,862 (based on education and experience). Full benefits package available.

Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED) provides special education services to 12 School Districts and three Charter Schools within five counties of southeast Minnesota: Fillmore, Houston, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona. HVED also has a Setting IV Behavior Program, Students Achieving Integrated Services (SAIL) that provides programming for students in grades K-12 with challenging behaviors currently receiving special education services. Along with the SAIL programs, HVED provides programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a program named for Specialized Programming, Education, Comprehensive Therapy and other Resources for their Unique Minds (SPECTRUM).
