  • Proficient with MS Office, Google apps, and email; strong communication.

  • Oversight and development of innovative special education services.
  • Maintain student records per state law and Department of Education guidelines.
  • Assist in hiring and training Special Education staff.
  • Collaborate with agencies and state reporting on data.

The Virtual Preparatory Academy of Missouri at Atlanta is a K-12 tuition-free online public school in the state of Missouri. ELIGIBILITY: Open to residents of Missouri
Responsibilities
  • Oversight and development of innovative special education services to meet diverse student needs and ensure quality of education and compliance
  • Contribute to the leadership team working as an active member oftheAdministrativeStaff;assist in the developmentand trainingof the total school philosophy of specialeducation
  • Ensure maintenanceofallspecial education studentrecords andfilesin accordance with timelines and guidelines as established by state law and the Department of Education best practices
  • Suggest/developnewpolicies,procedures or changes essential to special educationprogramsand compliance
  • Hold a reduced caseload of students
  • Maintain compliance with paperwork and service time for the assigned caseload
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning all student information and any professionalmatters
  • Work with the teaching staff to improve standardized and proficiency testingresults
  • Assist in hiring and oversee the training of all Special Educationstaff
  • Act as point of contact with all agencies providing related services to students, manage contracts and agreements related to services in collaboration with supervisor.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance professionalskills
  • Provide resources forSpecial Education staff
  • In collaboration with the Testing Manager, track and plan for provision of alldocumented student accommodationsfor state anddistricttesting
  • Act as point of contact for outside agencies and service providers working withstudents
  • Collaborate with the State Reporting Coordinator to ensure all data for Special Education students is accurately captured and reported
  • Participate in such other activities as directed: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), openhouses,commencement exercises, chaperone studentactivities,provide guidance for students, participate in professionallearningcommunities, studyandhelpresolveschool problems,andparticipateinthepreparationof courses of study -- these activities demonstrate valuable support forthe school
  • Perform student home visits asrequired
  • Serve as LEA/District Rep for special education meetings
  • Perform other duties asassigned
Skills/Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Active Special Education License in Missouri
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office Suite, Google applications, e-mail, and internet applications; excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exhibit genuine care for children and a passion for teaching
  • Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret student data to make sound educational decisions
  • Exhibit flexibility with regard to decision‑making, daily challenges, and job duties
  • Has strong sense of integrity
  • Has a “team player” attitude
  • Ability to work in a diverse educational community setting
  • Understanding of the community and student demographics
  • Understanding of the RTI process
  • Understand state proficiency testing as well as state teaching standards
  • Satisfactory completion of state required criminal history check and health tests
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds
