Job summary

ACCEL Schools LLC seeks a Virtual Special Education Coordinator to oversee innovative SPED services and ensure compliance for Ohio students. You will contribute to leadership, maintain records, and develop policies while managing a reduced caseload and collaborating with agencies.

You will work with teaching staff to improve testing results, hire/train SPED personnel, and coordinate accommodations for state assessments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret student data for decisions.
  • Flexible with daily challenges and duties.
  • Demonstrates integrity and team-player attitude.
  • Ability to work in diverse educational settings and understand RTI.
  • Knowledge of state proficiency testing and standards.
  • Must pass state criminal history check and health tests.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and develop innovative special education services to meet diverse needs and ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to leadership as an active member of Administrative Staff; assist in developing the school philosophy of special education.
  • Maintain all SPED records and files per timelines and state guidelines.
  • Suggest or develop policies and procedures for SPED programs and compliance.
  • Hold a reduced caseload and maintain paperwork and service time for caseload.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and professional matters.
  • Work with staff to improve testing results and assist in hiring/training SPED staff.
  • Coordinate with agencies providing services; manage contracts with supervisor.
  • Track and plan for documented student accommodations for state/district testing.

About the Opportunity:

  • Oversight and development of innovative special education services to meet diverse student needs and ensure quality of education and compliance
  • Contribute to the leadership team working as an active member oftheAdministrativeStaff;assist in the developmentand trainingof the total school philosophy of specialeducation
  • Ensure maintenance ofallspecial education studentrecords andfilesin accordance with timelines and guidelines as established by state law and the Department of Education best practices
  • Suggest/developnewpolicies,procedures or changes essential to special educationprogramsand compliance
  • Hold a reduced caseload of students
  • Maintain compliance with paperwork and service time for the assigned caseload
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning all student information and any professionalmatters
  • Work with the teaching staff to improve standardized and proficiency testingresults
  • Assist in hiring and oversee the training of all Special Educationstaff
  • Act as point of contact with all agencies providing related services to students, manage contracts and agreements related to services in collaboration with supervisor.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance professionalskills
  • Provide resources forSpecial Education staff
  • In collaboration with the Testing Manager, track and plan for provision of alldocumented student accommodationsfor state anddistricttesting
  • Act as point of contact for outside agencies and service providers working withstudents
  • Collaborate with the State Reporting Coordinator to ensure all data for Special Education students is accurately captured and reported
  • Participate in such other activities as directed: faculty meetings (before or after school hours), openhouses,commencement exercises, chaperone studentactivities,provide guidance for students, participate in professionallearningcommunities, studyandhelpresolveschool problems,andparticipateinthepreparationof courses of study -- these activities demonstrate valuable support forthe school
  • Perform student home visits asrequired
  • Serve as LEA/District Rep for special education meetings
  • Perform other duties asassigned

About You:

  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office Suite, Google applications, e-mail, and internet applications; excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exhibit genuine care for children and a passion for teaching
  • Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret student data to make sound educational decisions
  • Exhibit flexibility with regard to decision-making, daily challenges, and job duties
  • Has strong sense of integrity
  • Has a “team player” attitude
  • Ability to work in a diverse educational community setting
  • Understanding of the community and student demographics
  • Understanding of the RTI process
  • Understand state proficiency testing as well as state teaching standards
  • Satisfactory completion of state required criminal history check and health tests

The annual starting salary for this position is between $55,000 - 75,000 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
