Job summary

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Co-Teacher to support students with significant cognitive and developmental disabilities in a K-12 setting. The role emphasizes a functional curriculum, daily living skills, and vocational preparation within a general education environment where students have opportunities to participate with typical peers.

The position offers an hourly rate between $17.87 and $25.79, with pay distributed over 12 months.

Qualifications

• Education: At least 48 college hours required, bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience with cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities strongly preferred.
• Willingness to pursue a Special Education teaching certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under guidance of teachers.
• Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans and monitor progress.
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable participation.
• Collaborate with speech therapists, social workers, and therapists.
• Maintain student records with teachers.
• Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and develop social skills.
• Assist with daily living activities in Life Skills Unit when needed.
• Occasionally accompany students on school bus rides before/after school.
