Job summary

IDEA Public Schools seeks a Special Education Co-Teacher to gain valuable experience in special education within a collaborative team environment. The role supports students with cognitive and developmental disabilities using a functional curriculum in K-12 classrooms.

Ideal candidates have 48 college hours and a desire to advance in education, with opportunities to enroll in the IDEA certification program and grow within IDEA’s mission to prepare students for college.

Qualifications

• At least 48 college hours required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience working with children with cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities strongly preferred.
• Willingness to pursue a Special Education teaching certification preferred.
• IDEA Co-Teachers with a bachelor’s degree may enroll in the IDEA Special Education Certification Program (ISECP).

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under guidance.
• Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans and monitor progress.
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom.
• Work with professionals such as speech therapists, social workers, and therapists.
• Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
• Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and develop social skills.
• Assistance of daily living may include feeding, lifting, and toileting in Life Skills Unit.
• Occasionally accompany students on school bus routes.
