Job description

Job Title: Middle School Special Education Co-Teacher: 5th grade

Job Summary:
The Middle School Special Education Co-Teacher will work alongside general education teachers to provide specialized support and accommodations to students with disabilities in an inclusive classroom setting. The co-teacher will assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring that students have the support they need to succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to design and implement lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of students, including those with disabilities.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with disabilities, both individually and in small groups.
  • Modify and adapt curriculum materials to make them accessible for students with different learning needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of accommodations and modifications outlined in students’ IEPs.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain documentation related to academic achievement, behavior, and IEP goals.
  • Support the classroom teacher in creating an inclusive, positive, and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
  • Attend IEP meetings and contribute to the development of students’ educational plans.
  • Assist in classroom management and behavioral interventions for students with disabilities.
  • Help with data collection and assessment of student progress towards IEP goals.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborate with other educators to improve teaching practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field.
  • Acceptable background check as per O.C.G.A. 20-2-211.1
  • Certification in Special Education
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a co-teaching environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for supporting students with diverse needs.
