Job summary

The special education teacher aide at Sylvania assists the resource teacher or speech-language pathologist with classroom duties, providing academic support and supervision for students with mild to moderate disabilities.

The position offers a $2,000 new hire bonus after 30 days and a $2,000 retention bonus paid in December and June. Part-time staff receive prorated bonuses. Work hours are seven per day over a nine-month year in the ESSA bargaining unit.

Qualifications

• Must meet at least one qualification: diploma + ParaProfessional Assessment, or associate’s degree or two years of higher education.
• Non-violent crisis intervention training to be completed within six months of hire.
• Basic reading and math skills with understanding of learning disabilities.
• Clear and easily understood verbal communication in English.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with children.

Responsibilities

• Assist the resource teacher or SLP with classroom duties and academic support.
• Provide supervision of students with mild to moderate disabilities.
• Support implementation of district educational plans as applicable.

Job description

This position includes a $2,000 new hire bonus, which is paid after the successful completion of the first 30 days of employment.

In addition to the new hire bonus, this position also offers a $2,000 retention bonus. New hires will receive the first $1,000 installment in December upon completing the first semester, with the remaining $1,000 paid in June after finishing the school year. The bonus will be prorated for part-time employees.

Job Summary:

The special education teacher aide assists the special education resource teacher or speech-language pathologist (SLP) with classroom duties, to include providing academic support and overall supervision of students who experience mild to moderate disabilities.

New Hire Hourly Rate:

Grade 5: $20.13- $22.51DOE

Internal Hourly Rate:

Determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement

7 hours per day

Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):

1. Must meet at least one of the following three qualifications:
1. A high school diploma, or equivalent, and have completed the ParaProfessional Assessment, or have the ability to pass the ParaProfessional Assessment within four (4) months of hire; or
2. An associate's degree or higher; or
3. Completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours) or the equivalent
2. Non-violent crisis intervention training must be completed within six (6) months of hire.
3. Basic reading and math skills and a basic understanding of learning disabilities are required.
4. Clear and easily understood verbal communication skills in English.
5. Proven ability to communicate effectively with children.
