Job summary

Unalaska City School District seeks a paraeducator to assist elementary students with physical, social-emotional, behavioral, self-help, and developmental needs. Roles may be in IR/ER/PK or general education settings, depending on district needs.

This position offers a 7-hour workday and a 9-month work year, with a starting hourly rate of $23.15–$25.90 DOE. A $2,000 new hire bonus and a $2,000 retention bonus are provided, prorated for part-time staff.

Qualifications

• Must meet at least one: HS diploma or 48 semester hours, or an associate degree or higher.
• Ability to lift and assist students safely.
• Understanding of developmental disabilities and empathy for students with special needs.
• Tutoring skills appropriate to assigned students.
• Completed de-escalation/crisis intervention training, including physical restraint, as required.
• If signing is listed, completion of ASL I and ASL II is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in care, instruction, and support of elementary students (PreK–5 or PK–8 per campus).
• Work in Intensive Resource, Extended Resource, Preschool, or general education settings as needed.
• Support students with physical, social-emotional, behavior, and developmental needs.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to implement student plans.

Job description

This position includes a $2,000 new hire bonus, which is paid after the successful completion of the first 30 days of employment.

In addition to the new hire bonus, this position also offers a $2,000 retention bonus. New hires will receive the first $1,000 installment in December upon completing the first semester, with the remaining $1,000 paid in June after finishing the school year. The bonus will be prorated for part-time employees.

Job Summary

Assists in the care, instruction, and support of elementary students (PreK through grade 5, or through grade 8 at applicable campuses) with physical, social-emotional, behavioral, self-help, and/or developmental needs. Positions may be assigned to Intensive Resource (IR) rooms, Extended Resource (ER) rooms, Preschool (PK) classrooms, or integrated general education settings, based on district and building needs.

New Hire Hourly Rate: Grade 7: $23.15 - $25.90DOE

Internal Hourly Rate: Determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement

Work Day: 7 hours

Work Year: 9 months

The following are required:

1. Must meet at least one of the following:
   1. High school diploma/equivalent and ability to pass the ParaProfessional Assessment or WorkKeys within 4 months; or
   2. Associate's degree or higher; or
   3. Completion of 48 semester hours of higher education.
2. Demonstrated ability to lift and assist students safely.
3. Understanding of developmental disabilities and empathy for students with special needs.
4. Tutoring skills commensurate with the level of assigned students.
5. Successful completion of de-escalation/crisis intervention training, including physical restraint, as required.
6. If the posted vacancy lists a requirement for signing skills, the applicant must at a minimum have completed ASL I and ASL II.
