Job summary

Hampton City Schools seeks a licensed Special Education teacher to provide direct instructional services to students with disabilities in elementary locations Armstrong, Cooper, Langley. This 10-month, full-time role starts August 2026 with a salary scale from $58,500 to $101,105 based on degree and experience.

The position requires collaboration with families and staff to develop and implement IEPs, ongoing assessment, use of instructional materials and technology, and adherence to school

Qualifications

  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with SPED endorsement.
  • Must maintain license with appropriate endorsement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and human relations skills.
  • Good knowledge of the impairments and disabilities of the assigned students.
  • Good knowledge of procedures and materials to provide appropriate learning experiences.
  • Ability to assess needs, develop and implement an IEP, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Ability to coordinate activities with other staff.
  • Ability to develop and maintain required records and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct instructional services in a variety of settings to students with disabilities based on IEPs.
  • Assesses student abilities as related to goals, objectives, outcomes, and disability.
  • Collaborates with staff and parents to develop IEPs for each student.
  • Collaborates within a professional learning community to nurture school culture and accelerated achievement.
  • Plans instructional/learning strategies and materials appropriate to students.
  • Participates in eligibility, IEP, and triennial meetings.
  • Develops, adapts, and modifies educational materials to meet student needs.
  • Manages classroom behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment.
  • Coordinates educational activities with other professionals to maximize learning.
  • Assesses student achievement and maintains documentation for reporting.
  • Uses multimedia/technology to enhance learning and coordinates activities with staff.
  • Participates in staff development and meetings; communicates progress to parents.
  • Monitors learning time and ensures accessible materials.
  • Makes off-site visits as required to monitor students and coordinate with employers/instructors.
  • Performs related duties as required.
