Job summary

Elk River Public School District is seeking a Special Education Assistant I to support classroom teachers by tutoring and supervising students with special education needs. Responsibilities include monitoring students in mainstream classes, performing clerical duties, and assisting in behavior management.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent experience, and meet the Highly Qualified Paraprofessional requirements. CPR certification and sign language skills may also be required.

Qualifications

• High school degree, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to use office equipment and current office software.
• Experience working with students and understanding their functions in school.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with tutoring and monitoring students.
• Perform clerical duties such as data entry and maintaining student files.
• Supervise special education students outside the classroom.

Skills

Ability to work independently

Ability to maintain accurate records

Working knowledge of sign language

Computer equipment skills

Education

High school degree or GED

PELSB Paraprofessional Credential

At least two years of college credits
