Job summary

Kennedy Krieger Institute, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Teacher II to support teachers in a diverse student population and implement instruction per each student’s IEP.

The role includes assisting with adapting instruction to meet academic, medical, developmental, and technology needs, and covering teacher duties during absences. The position operates on an 11-month schedule at the Southern Maryland Campus and aims to provide stable supervision, parent conference participation, and leadership

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Previous experience with children with developmental disabilities preferred.
• Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training will be provided and certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the implementation of instruction in accordance with students’ IEP in cooperation with a supervising teacher, using strategies for academic and behavioral success.
• Prepare for and participate in parent conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings.
• Assume responsibilities during after school emergencies including student supervision, phone communication, and written documentation.
• Provide support and leadership for curricular and extra-curricular activities, events, and projects that support student-life and promote a positive school experience.
• Complete instructional-related duties as assigned by supervising teachers and administrators.
• Provide independent instruction, supervision, and classroom management in the absence of the supervising teacher.
• Implement behavioral protocols and assignments for students during instructional and non-instructional times.
• Utilize instructional and non-instructional times in a professional manner per guidelines.
• Participate in in-service training and staff meetings in a professional and collegial manner.
• Assist with the implementation of technology in instructional design and delivery per supervising teacher’s directions.
