Job description

The Special Education Assistant will assist the Special Education Teacher in meeting the diversified needs of students with various disabilities. Responsibilities include assisting with classroom modifications, communicating effectively with staff, providing structure and feedback, and working with students as assigned.

Examples of duties:

  1. Convey messages clearly and accurately according to the student's receptive language level.
  2. Assist in communication throughout the school day in various settings (recess, lunch, peer interactions, emergency drills) as per the IEP.
  3. Work on academic, communication, social, and self-help skills under the teacher's guidance.
  4. Support behavior management and classroom maintenance activities.
  5. Assist in providing instructional activities and reinforcement for students with special needs.
  6. Physically assist students, including lifting as needed.
  7. Supervise students during structured and unstructured times as directed.
  8. Implement behavior management strategies for individual students or groups.
  9. Assist with personal care procedures (e.g., dressing, toileting, feeding) as needed.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal.

Regular attendance is essential for this position.
