Job summary

Mesquite ISD is seeking a Special Education Assistant - Inclusion (Terry) to support the Inclusion Teacher in a full-time, non-exempt role. The position begins as soon as possible and involves assisting with instructional materials, classroom setup, and individual or small group student support.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, the ability to work with children with disabilities, follow instructions, and communicate effectively within a school setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers in preparation of teaching materials and bulletin boards.
• Operate standard office machines.
• Set up and operate audio-visual equipment and computers.
• Assist with the instructional program under the supervision of a certified teacher.
• Work with an individual student and/or a small group to reinforce academic, behavioral, or development skills.
• Perform routine clerical tasks, data collection, and grading under supervision.
• Assist assessment team by administering achievement and/or development tests.
• Help manage the behavior of assigned students and keep the teacher informed of needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including SHARS duties as needed.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

• To assist in clerical duties and instructional responsibilities working under the direction of the Inclusion Teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma/GED

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively

EXPERIENCE

• None… prior experience working with children with learning disabilities preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Assist classroom teachers in preparation of classroom teaching materials and bulletin boards.
