Job summary

Comal Independent School District seeks an attentive educational aide to assist in implementing classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction. You will work under principal supervision and assist certified teachers, with additional responsibilities in special education settings as needed.

The role requires assisting in reading, writing, and math readiness, and providing support to students with disabilities through appropriate physical and instructional tasks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate required.
• Completion of at least two years of college (48 semester hours) or an associate’s degree or equivalent demonstrated ability to assist in reading, writing and math.
• Experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment.
• Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Help keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities as needed (transfers, lifting, positioning).
• Help manage student behavior, including crisis intervention and restraining disruptive behavior as needed.
• Learn and adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
• Work with students individually or in small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises.
• Supervise students during the day (lunchroom, bus, playground).
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems; maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development, meetings, and events as assigned.
• Maintain district records and adhere to policies and retention schedules.
