Job summary

WAKEFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Little Rock, AR, is seeking an Aide in Special Education to support assigned teachers and staff within the instructional program and related services.

The role requires completion of 60 college credits or an Associate Degree, or passing the ParaPro exam. It is a 9.25-month contract (184 days) with a benefits package and non-exempt status. The ideal candidate will assist with instructional activities, behavior management, and data collection.

Qualifications

• 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited institution or an Associate Degree.
• ParaPro Praxis Exam (457 or above) is acceptable as alternative.
• Typing ability is preferred.
• Possesses positive interpersonal relations skills.
• Commitment to confidentiality of records.
• Strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

Responsibilities

• Reinforces instructional activities with students as prescribed.
• Assists in preparing lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Assumes readiness to perform instructional duties as prescribed.
• Assists with the physical needs of the student (feeding, toileting, dressing, catheterizing).
• Assists in transporting students to and from learning sites.
• Learns the curriculum content of the classes in which they assist.
• Assists individual children in need of special attention.
• Implements behavior management techniques.
• Assists in data collection.
• Assists the teacher with classroom maintenance.
• Performs duties such as lunchroom, recess, bus assistance.
• Participates in in-services, staffing, faculty meetings, etc.
