Job summary

Joshua Independent School District is seeking a Special Education Aide for a SPED Structured Learning Classroom/Life Skills pool. The aide will support a SPED teacher, assist with instructional materials, behavior management, and student care in a nonexempt, 160-day work year.

Reports to the principal and certified teachers. The position emphasizes assisting students with disabilities, including mobility, self-help, and personal care, under supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or college hours toward Education Certification preferred.
• Educational Aide Certification preferred or pursued for certification.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Assist with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
• Keep administrative records for teachers.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities (transfers, lifting, positioning).
• Assist with personal care, feeding, bathroom needs and hygiene.
• Help manage behavior and intervene in crises as needed.
• Support individual students or small groups to develop motor skills.
• Supervise students during the day (lunch, bus, playground).
• Inform teachers of special needs or problems of students.
