Job summary

Omaha Public Schools Buena Vista High School in Omaha, NE seeks a Paraprofessional for the Special Education Alternative Curriculum Program (ACP). Starting August 2026, work August through May when students are in session, for 7 hours per day, 10 months, non-exempt.

Responsibilities include assisting teachers, supporting students with daily living tasks, data collection, and creating instructional materials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Maintain high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps and reach overhead.
• Training in health care related field preferred.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Follows written and oral directions to carry out educational programs of students.
• Committed to helping all children learn - assist students and reinforce learning concepts for individual or small groups.
• Willingness to participate in professional development and in-service trainings.
• Regular daily attendance is essential.
• Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and handle situations with tact and diplomacy.

Responsibilities

• Assist or directly carry out educational activities designed by teachers and other professionals.
• Assist students with toileting needs and diaper changing.
• Carry out self-care programs including feeding, tooth brushing and grooming.
• Assist with unloading and loading students on the van/bus.
• Maintain a cheerful and attractive classroom environment.
• Maintain cleanliness standards in classroom and restrooms.
• Collect and record data.
• Create teaching materials related to the curriculum.
• Carry out structured behavior programs as directed by staff.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Interact/communicate with students as directed by staff.
• Work effectively with paraprofessionals and professionals in the program.
• Carry out programs in both school and non-school settings as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
