Job summary

SHAWNEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS in Shawnee, OK seeks a Special Ed Teaching Assistant/Paraprofessional to support instructional goals at Will Rogers Elementary. You will assist certified staff, help with individualized skill development, and free teachers for curriculum planning.

The role requires an Associate Degree or 48 college credits or GED, plus willingness to complete the Special Education Paraprofessional course. Prior elementary experience and sign language competency are a plus.

Qualifications

• Basic communication to exchange information and instructions.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information.
• Simple data recording and record keeping operations.
• Arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
• Reads and interprets routine materials and charts.
• Uses basic business machines and computer equipment.
• Some interaction outside the classroom with others.

Responsibilities

• Assist with instruction and supervise students in class and activities.
• Prepare and adapt instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
• Serve as resource for substitute teachers while maintaining confidentiality.
• Assist with student behavior management and safety.
• Record grades and attendance and complete required paperwork.
• Perform classroom housekeeping and assist with supplies for instructional activities.
• Support therapists and participate in IEP meetings when needed.
• Operate classroom equipment and supervise during lunch, recess, and transit.
• Attend in-service trainings for special education policies and procedures.
