Piedmont Unified School District's Piedmont Middle School is seeking an instructional assistant to support students with special educational needs under the supervision of certificated staff.
You will tutor students individually or in small groups, help prepare lesson plans based on IEPs, assist with instructional materials, reinforce positive behavior, communicate with teachers and parents, and participate in conferences. Some clerical tasks and light first aid are also expected.
Basic Function: Under general supervision from the appropriate certificated instructional personnel, assist with instructional and non-instructional duties in a program designed to serve students with special educational needs.
Education and Experience: Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to graduation from high school. Courses in psychology, child growth and development and one year of experience in a paid or volunteer setting working with school age children is desirable.
Skills: Knowledge of appropriate grade level academic areas of instruction; and variety of techniques used in guiding and motivating students with special educational needs. Clerical work including keyboarding and photocopying.
Environment: Classroom environment; constant interruptions.
Physical Abilities: Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; adequate vision to read, prepare and proofread documents; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects.
Under supervision, to support participation in curriculum and social facilitation for a student as directed by a certificated employee; to perform all related duties as assigned.
Any combination of training, experience, and High school diploma or the equivalent, and. Two years of college (48 units), or. A. A. degree (or higher). Courses in psychology, child growth and development and one year of experience in a paid or volunteer setting working with school age children is desirable.
